PENGASSAN Threatens Shutdown Of Facilities
The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has threatened to shut down oil and gas facilities in the country if the Federal Government stops the salaries of its members in government agencies.
The association's members work in government agencies such as Department of Petroleum Resources, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, Nigeria Content Development Board, Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the Petroleum Training Institute.
The government recently directed staff of these agencies to enrol into the Integrated Personnel Payroll System (IPPIS) or risk having their salaries stopped.
PENGASSAN has always advocated that its members be exempt from the system due to what it calls the peculiar nature of the petroleum industry.
In a statement on Wednesday, the association said that the threat to embark on industrial action was based on the fears expressed by the in-house branch union leaders at the reconciliatory meeting with stakeholders at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu.
